A quiet end to a busy year

Sharp Edge, Blencathra

3 people were overtaken by blizzard conditions whilst on the summit. They found themselves descending to Sharp Edge. They tried to get off the tricky edge and became cragfast on the Scales Tarn side. One of them slipped and injured his leg. They were fortunately able to call for help on their mobile phone. A tricky situation for all involved with a happy outcome.

Watendlath area

2 people had used a mobile phone to tell relatives they were lost in a blizzard near Blea ****. Contact was lost and their location was very uncertain. One of them eventually got down and the other was found near Haweswater.

High Doat, Borrowdale

A 30 year old lady was taken ill with a numb arm, dizziness and breathlessness. She was carried down and taken to the local hospital for a check up.

Scope End, Hindscarth

A 51 year old man collapsed while completing a walk with his wife in beautiful, clear, frosty weather. He was found to be dead on arrival of the Team.

A cragfast sheep was rescued from its predicament.

Another sheep stuck in steep, loose ground.

Scafells

A 14 year old boy was reported overdue. We were requested by Wasdale MRT to assist in the search. He was found at first light on Scafell.

Sty Head stretcher box

A 50 year old man was unable to continue his walk. A medical condition had caused his legs to seize up.

Yet another sheep! This location is an old favourite, involving tricky rescues.

Scafells

2 people in their 20s used their mobile phone to say they were lost and exhausted. Their location was not at all clear and the girl had collapsed. They had no torches. The Team made a search, eventually located them on Allen Crags, and escorted them down!

Great Gable - Aaron Slack

A lady (52 years) was taken ill. She was airlifted to hospital by a helicopter exercising in the area.

Scarth Gap, Buttermere

Whilst on the previous rescue, we were requested by Cockermouth MRT to assist with a lady who had broken her leg. 2 team members flew with the helicopter to assist the lady.

A walker was reported overdue. He turned up at 9 pm as the Team was setting off.

Rowling End, Causey Pike

A lady (35 yrs) slipped on steep, wet grass and broke her ankle.

Yew Crag, Rosthwaite

3 ewes were reported to be cragfast. One was found to be dead, the others just hungry!

A man in his 50s collapsed whilst walking. He was found to be dead on arrival of the team. He was taken off by a helicopter in the area.

A man fell off whilst bouldering and broke his leg.

Sharp Edge, Blencathra

2 walkers got into difficulties on the descent of the ridge. Other walkers used a mobile phone to call for assistance. They were found walking down, having extricated themselves!

Clough Head

A paraglider (42 yrs), having landed on the summit ridge, was caught by the wind and dragged over the edge. He sustained arm and leg injuries and was taken off by helicopter.

A man (22 yrs) was found in a confused state in undergrowth after he, himself, had been looking for an overdue woman.

The police requested a local search when an abandoned rucksack was found. It's owner later phoned to say he'd left it!

A man (71 yrs), an experienced walker, collapsed and died whilst walking with his family.

A woman had been clambering over some rock steps in the gill. She slipped and fractured the base of her skull. She was airlifted to hospital.

A man (40 yrs) had been missing for a week. His car was found at Seathwaite. A 9 hour search located him camping at Sprinkling Tarn. He was brought down by Police and team members.

A dog fell 200' down a waterfall. It was found unconscious but it made a full recovery.

A lady (41 yrs) was carried down after a passing walker with a mobile phone reported a problem. She was taken to hospital suffering from a medical condition.

A 13 year old boy, in a school party, fell and badly lacerated his knee.

Steel Knotts, Borrowdale

A climber fell 12-15 metres while leading. He suffered head and back injuries and was flown off by helicopter.

A climber fell about 40'. He was held by his partner but he still sustained a fractured orbit and a shattered tibia and fibula.

A climber fell 40' while downclimbing after his second had fallen off. He sustained back injuries.

Grains Gill, Borrowdale

A man (65 yrs) who had broken his collar bone the previous day whle changing a light bulb, slipped, broke his glasses and cut his face. He insisted on walking down but slipped again on to his injured arm. He then required assistance!
